Shadow is Jason's dog, a three-year-old Labrador. It was Jason's responsibility to take care of the dog because his parents never wanted one. In the first book, he was scared that since he was gone Shadow was going to starve, since Shadow was his responsibility. In the second book, it is shown that Jason's parents and Shadow grew a closer relationship throughout Jason's first disappearance.
